Here are a few of our favorites, with the nearest places at the top of the list, because who wants to drive once you’re here?  We’ll warn you that we prefer locally-owned places serving home-cooked food at a reasonable price.  If we can find whole grains and gluten free options, we’re even happier.

Dining In:

The Post in Penacook (603-228-0522) has a catering menu.  We call your attention to their Family Dinners for those nights you just want to stay in. If you order early enough, they may be able to deliver. To go to their website click here.

Open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Excellent Italian food with outdoor seating; family friendly.

The Celery Stick Café, 7.6 miles, (603-225-6840), 24 S, Main Street, Concord, (in the Concord Food Co-op).

Open:  Monday through Saturday, 10:30 a.m. through 7 p.m.

The Celery Stick café offers a salad bar, a small hot bar, and a selection of soups. The hot bar always offers home-made soups.  The hot bar menu changes daily and is posted on the website. To go to their website click here.

Open:  Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sunday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

These folk serve health-conscious fast food just off Route 93 (Exit 14) including whole grains, in-season salads, and fast-food staples.  Family friendly.

The Common Man Restaurant, 9.3 miles, 1 Gulf Road, Concord, (603-228-3463)

Open:   11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily for lunch and 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 4 to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights for dinner.

This place is popular with locals and travelers alike.  It’s easy to find just off Route 93, Exit 13. It tends to have a significant wait time in the warm months and on holidays.
